This is one of a pair of American Oystercatchers currently frequenting Duxbury Beach. Every time I have seen them they have been feeding at the edge of a small flock (8-10)of Brant - mostly at the water's edge of Gurnet Marsh roughly opposite the Plymouth town line sign.
According to Mass Audubon's Coastal Waterbird Program, Oystercatchers are increasing their breeding areas in southeastern MA. I am unaware of any recent breeding history on Duxbury Beach and am hoping this might be the pioneering pair that adds Duxbury Beach to the list of Oystercatcher breeding spots. It would be fun to have these beauties become Beach "regulars"!
