The Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is one of several migratory birds which spend their summers here. The males usually arrive in the third week of April and depart during the first week of September. The females arrive in early May and depart, with their offsprings, about a fortnight or so after the males. Migrating birds are occasionally seen into early October. They winter in southern Mexico and Central America. No summer here is complete without their presence.
