天池古稱"瑤池"，位於北天山東段博格達峰之下，海拔1900公尺，雪峰環繞、翠松簇擁、湖光秀美，是新西游記西行第一階段的最後一站。

人們一直把天池與西王母一起聯想，說天池是西王母梳妝臺上的銀鏡和沐浴池，而圍繞的雲霧，是她的霓裳羽衣﹔
小天池則是洗腳盆﹔大小鍋底坑就是做飯之處。 這些神話傳說都給天池上了一層神秘的色彩。


Tianchi (Heaven Lake) is 1,900m above sea level on the stunning Bogda mountain.
This large pristine lake is surrounded by alpine meadows and snow-capped mountains.
The steep Heavenly Mountains (tianshan) are densely packed with pine and cypress trees as well as fields of wild flowers and herbs.
