Angkor Wat was first built as a hindu temple. However, with the decline of the Ancient Khmer Empire, it was turned into a Buddhist temple and statues of Buddha can be found all around the temples complex in the hallways and towers. Over the past century, wandering Buddhist monks have made Angkor their home and thus established it as a destination for Buddhists around the world.
