After 20 years of talking about going there "someday", my wife Marilyn and I spent close to 30 days in Italy (09/17/07 to 10/18/07). We had a great trip and managed to see most of what we wanted to see, realizing of course, we only had a small sampling of the cities, sights and culture of Italy. Visiting the familiar sights(the Colosseum, St. Peters Basilica, etc.) that we had only seen in pictures was exciting but it was also great just to be in the middle of a completely different culture. Not speaking the language of the general population was a challenge but we were able to get by with our small knowledge of Italian and the help of some of the locals. We stayed in Rome, Posiano, Assisi, Pienza, San Giminagno, Frienze (Florence), Lucca, Venezia(Venice), Argegno(Lake Como area) and Milan. Day trips took us to Capri, Pompeii, Pisa, Orvieto, Siena, Spoleto, Montepulciano and several small towns in Tuscany. We took over 8000 pictures during our trip and will be posting a very small fraction of those pictures as time permits. We will have a gallery for each of the towns where we stayed, starting with Rome; until the town's gallery is created, each of those towns will have a "placeholder" image for the future gallery.
