Hooded Merganser preparing to remove claw from crayfish
(Lophodytes cuculiatus)

Oka Ponds, Los Gatos, Ca

When this Hooded Merganser caught a crayfish, it removed the claws by clamping each claw tightly in turn and shaking its head from side to side.
