A wonderful image. I think you need that piece of the wall to anchor the pier and give the viewers a sense of where they're standing. It also adds to the sense of depth. I think you did it just right.

very nice scenary and composition...perhaps i'd increase the contrast in PS and would cut the little piece of wall... but i like it very much! :)
