A beautiful portrait of the wren. All the technical issues have been dealt with very competently so the documentary aspects of the image are very strong. The limitation is that the nature story in the image is not as strong as it would be if the wren was doing something obvious such as holding an insect in its beak, preening or launching into flight. The viewer can assume that the wren is sitting there waiting for an insect to fly by, but that's not quite enough to take the image to the merit level. This image may do well in an open competition.
