Gum Trees

Judges Comments

There are a couple of problems here. Firstly, the lighting is not suitable for the subject.
Too many highlights and shadows and none forming any sort of pattern. For this type of subject
look for a cloudy day, even better if there is rain around. For a forest of smooth barked trees
such as this, try after heavy rain. Not only will the rain in the air improve the lighting,
but there will be so much more colour in the trees. For composition, there is no way this
sort of forest can provide a centre of interest. Look around for an interesting trunk,
prominent feature in the bark, or even an interesting tuft of grass and place it in the
left of the photo. If it is in the right of the photo it dominates the photo and the forest
you are wanting to photograph becomes an interesting background
