From a nature photography point of view, photos of flowers like this should show
all the texture in the bracts ("petals"). What I do in this situation is under expose a stop
and then use levels to lighten the darker areas. The other feature is that this is such a
common species, it should be no trouble to find a specimen with uniform bracts.
