When everyone went off to photograph the Great Crested Flycatchers I slipped away to look for this Spotted Sandpiper. This is a common, local breeder, but I haven’t had the best luck getting photos of them in their spotted breeding plumage. They have been wary whenever I encountered them in the past, but this individual was quite friendly and approachable when I first encountered him by accident the previous week. I didn’t have my long lens then, so I couldn’t get a shot, and today I was hoping to make up for that, especially since Joe had just shared prints of a Spotted Sandpiper he photographed recently! I found him in the same spot and got a couple of shots, my first good shots of a breeding Spotted Sandpiper, and I then turned my attention to dragonflies because there were lots around of a number of different types. I never made it back to see the Great Crested Flycatchers.
