Henry's Elfin (Callophrys henrici)

Today my target species were Henry's Elfin and Mustard White (next photo). I saw a Mustard White yesterday, which gave me an itch to go out looking to get a photo today, but no Henry's Elfins where they had been numerous in past years. I was also looking to get a few photos of them. Today I saw 7 Henry's Elfins in the same area that had none yesterday, most of them in one specific area where 3 males had little territories set up and frequently warred with each other. When the scales settled and the males returned to their perches, I intruded for a few minutes to get some photos.

The Red Admiral invasion continued today with quantity of them flying just about everywhere I looked. I have never seen anything like it. I also saw numerous Common Green Darner dragonflies out today. I have photos to post of them to post soon (waiting for the rainy weekend).

Fabulous shot of this elfin, perfect backdrop, perfect pose. I have yet to see one this year, but have seen some common green darners. VV
