Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina)

In July I posted photos of Blue Dashers, a dragonfly species that was first recorded in my local area last year and underwent a population explosion this year. Blue Dashers are now being spotted locally in quantity in appropriate habitat where they have never occurred before. A similar phenomena appears to be happening with Halloween Pennants. This dragonfly species, as far as I know, only occurs in one particular area at the extreme western fringe of my local area. This year they are appearing well beyond that. This is the fourth new location I have noted for this species so far this year, one of the other locations being the parking lot at Walmart, but unlike the Blue Dashers, the Halloween Pennants are not showing up in quantity. This guy, like the others I have seen so far, was alone, and so far, as far as I know, nobody else has seen any out-of-place Halloween Pennants, so there doesn't appear to be many around, not like the Blue Dashers.

They must be one of the prettiest dragonflies around, and your shot is exquisite. V
