Winterlude has a number of attractions that are consistent from year to year and some that are unique to one year. This year one of the unique attractions was an eye-catching display called "Scarecrows on the Run". This display was made up of scarecrows from the rural far north of Quebec (Abitibi) where the migration of younger people to urban areas concern local residents. Each summer the scarecrows are put on display in a roadside field in their community as symbol of the social and cultural vitality of their community in the face of this migration. I thought this display was the neatest thing!
