This morning I biked out to a spot in Stony Swamp where I thought I might be able to find this butterfly species, a 6 km trip, and when I arrived at my destination I realized that the memory card for my camera was still in my computer. I had arranged to show someone around Stony Swamp this morning and there wasn't enough time for me to go back to get my memory card and still keep the meeting time, so I continued on without. When we walked through the area where I thought I would find this butterfly species we had one land right at our feet! This happened not long after a Canadian Tiger Swallowtail landed near us within range of my camera! Then later on we encountered some dragonfly species that posed nicely for the camera I couldn't use!
When I got back home for lunch I spontaneously decided to go back to Stony Swamp to look for this butterfly species again, this time with my memory card, so I ate a quick lunch, grabbed my memory card, and then biked back the 6 km through the woods to the area where I saw the butterfly earlier. It took almost 40 minutes of walking up and down and around in circles and standing still among scrub for long periods of time before I found this one. Later on I got the dragonfly photos I missed out on this morning too. So in total I biked and walked 40 km today. I normally wouldn't put this much effort into finding and photographing something, but after missing out on many photos this morning I wanted to do something to make up for it. I had the energy and free time to go back so I did, and luckily I had a second chance with the photos I missed this morning.
