Daklis is a local word in Ilocos that refers to a process of catching fish involving the entire community.
Members of a local fishermen village in Curimao gather to catch fish in a very unusual way. A boat was sent out from the shore dragging along a very very long fishing net. One end of the net is held by the first group of the villager on the shore. The boat traveled out at least a kilometer away from the shore and made a U-Turn towards the shore that landed a kilometer away from the first group. A second group of villagers took control of the other end of the net then both groups started to pull the net towards the shore. The distance between the two group became smaller and smaller as the net gets nearer and nearer to the shore. When the two group finally met, it was time to haul in whatever they caught. Around 100 people were involved in this activity. Old, young and children all joined in to help. The entire process took more than 3 hours under the hot and intense sun.
It broke our hearts to see that today's catch was not really worth much...
