The Old Lady in the Market

I took nearly 500 photographs while in Baguio Business trip and ONLY this picture swept me off my feet. After looking at it at home, I simply bowed my head and thank GOD for all the blessings that HE has given to me.

Powerful foto. The picture tells a story, and we might never know what it is. Tourist dont know the secrets of those old women walking around Baguio begging for change. As a matter of fact some of them above middle class believe it or not, some of them have kids that are all professionals. Tatooed arms USUALLY symbolize how much land or property that person owns. More ink...rich enough.

The picture is very good! I agree … it also touched and convicted me to be more caring and loving towards others, specially the poor and old. I don’t know if the woman is a widow, but James reminds us about what pure and undefiled religion is … that it’s about caring towards orphans and widows, and keeping oneself unstained from the world (italics are mine).

You're absolutely right! We forget so many times how one is truly blessed - the old photo is a reminder to each one how much we should be thankful for. Come to think of it, life is a continuous challenge and we need the Lord to journey with us in His own mysterious ways. Thank you for this reminder and I truly appreciate your sharing this thought. Did you ever told that old lady to make a good posture first for not looking at the camera before you make a shot ? (Smile !!! ) You are really a great photographer. I am your fun collector of all the pictures you've send to me. This picture really touch my heart how GOD have love each every one of us inspite of our ups and down in our life. Still we are more blessed than the less fortunate . . I am proud to be one of your Camera club member. I need to learn more from your experties in photo shooting.

By just a mere photo shot you have captured the vividness of the sad and tired face of the old lady that makes me ponder of the challenges she has to face on a daily basis.Is the backgound of the picture the real thing or manicured? This is what you called " a picture speaks a thousand words"......

Her face says it all..her hardship, her effort to revive hope in her misery..I think you captured humanity's plea for kindness and charity..I would like to pass it onto my friends..can I? I will probably write a poem about her. Great shot! It moves the heart and touches the soul.

Same here. The image is a reflection of poverty and loneliness. The pictures tells it all. I myself was just realizing how much blessed I am!

The dark background and dark blue attire of the old lady really gave so much emphasis on the expression on her wrinkled face depicting pain and suffering of what poverty and neglect can bring. Your picture captured a very powerful message of poverty and forsaken folks within our midst.
