Strategically Placed

Monday 3rd October 2005 - Day 289

I'm having one of those "have I posted this before?" moments.

Anyway, the concrete thingy in front of the house is a pillbox, probably from WW2. Erected to form a strongpoint guarding roads and things like that. Only thing is, this one has always puzzled me. There is a small river, a bridge on which I am standing, a mill, and a back road.... ohhhhh and a park behind the house. Just seems to be a strange place to have put one. History throws up some things sometimes that just baffles! Me, anyway.

I always wanted my own pillhouse. Maybe in my retirement house.

Smart people built their own bomb shelters and pillboxes. I like this shot, especially with the water.

pillbox? never heard that term for a structure..excellent composition!

Bet the pillbox makes a good wine cellar. I like unique houses. Think this one would be really cool by this stream. Beautiful picture.

Beautiful location and lovely composition! A very appealing image!

Some parks are worth defending and the bridge was a strategic crossing point for the postman with the Teutonic name. :)
Very nice image Lee.

Beautiful shot and composition - with an interesting bit of history thrown in for good measure. Seems an odd place to have been fortified, but I remember reading about a rash of people building personal bomb shelters here back in the 50s for security too.

A pillbox? I learn something new everyday. :)

That was where they made the tea? Ah! Maybe a VIP stayed in the house or they held secret meetings there.

Maybe the owner did his own pillbox protection. Nice place to reside.

Looks a nice place to live - by the river with the overhanging trees. Nice composition.

Beautifully composed ... I love the way the river sneaks along the side of your image! :)

Very nice! I like the perspective of the stream and the stationary house.

Interesting. And beyond that this is a lovely scene nicely photographed Lee.

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Hitler!

I just love this sort of quirky thing - it's what I love most about living in England.

And it just might save you from an invasion of trout....
Al Chesworth03-Oct-2005 18:38
It was for the "home guard" to eat the fish they stole from the river.
beverley harrison03-Oct-2005 18:01
very pretty anyway! is that yours?

A lovely place. I like the red accents on the home. You live in a magical place. :)
