Gallinule Attacking Alligator

The alligator was basking within about 15 feet of the Gallinule's nest area. I was there to photograph the Gallinule. It came out of the rushes and spotted the gator, and cautiously approached. It then got close enough and pecked it. The gator twitched its tail and the Gallinule jumped back with wings spread. This scenario was repeated about three times with the gator doing nothing more than twitching its tail. So the unsuccessful Gallinule faded back into the rushes and the gator remained to bask.
