Old Montana State Prison

Bands of outlaws and Vigilantes roamed early Montana Territory leaving a wake of destruction and
death. In an attempt to tame the Wild West, a prison was established in Deer Lodge in 1871.
Constructed primarily with convict labor, Old Montana State Prison was an active prison until 1979,
when it was moved to a new site four miles west of town.

Good pictures but you should show the "dirtiness" of the place I satarted doing time Nov 1973 in there i witnessed murders beatings sexual assaults etc...Your photos are good but only show what the "Prison" wants you to see

I taught in the U of M Prison Education program at the old MSP during the mid-1970s. These superb photos brought back many memories. Superb images that capture the essence of the old MSP.
