Peck's Skipper (Polites peckius)

There's something curious about yours. Can't really put my hands on it. (Need to talk to a serious artist-philosopher.)
It may have something to do with seeing twice as much of the beautiful brown & yellow checkered pattern.
It may be having to count and verify there are six legs. It may be wondering what the antennae are doing. I can sense the pump at the base of the proboscis.
The picture sure has a 3-D illusion, which side shots often lack. At this angle, bilateral symmetry becomes evident.
I suppose if embryonic development proceeded imperfectly, you'd have a slightly asymmetric bug which is less likely to survive in a tough world. But this bug is perfect.
It looks as if he invited himself to a fancy meal on white linen tablecloth and a piece of lemon pie.
To get the full "human" experience from an image such as this (and we must not forget we are a visual animal),
one must explore several dimensions (the scientific, the artistic, the philosophical) and not apologize for our anthropomorphic interpretations.

Lastly, I wonder what the insect would think if he saw your image of himself.
If he chased away the "intruder", then you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
