The Barn Owl is locally common thoughout most of North America. It is threatened in the Midwest and Northeast due to habitat loss.
When food is plentiful, nest boxes and platforms erected by conservation groups have increased their population.
Their diet consists of small mammals, such as rabbits, mice and voles.They are also known to eat birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
Barn Owls are nonmigratory barring any food shortages and remain monogamous until death of a partner.
The female lays up to 12 white,elliptical eggs at 2 to 3 day intervals which hatch in 29-42 days.
The female will begin incubation starting with the first egg, hatching asynchronous.
Both male and female Barn Owls will feed young after about 2 weeks. Young will fledge at 6 to 13 weeks.
