Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis)

Averaging about 1.5-1.7" in length, these are the only skimmers with green faces. The male is powdered blue with white claspers while the female is greenish and has black rings on the abdomen. Male Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) is smaller, has complex thoracic markings, and lacks the white claspers and green face. Female Common Green Darner is much larger, and the green-thoraxed snaketails have eyes separated on top of the head. This species is fairly common in Wisconsin but moreso in the southern part of the state. I saw only one individual in northern Wisconsin in 2008.
