Splendid Clubtail (Gomphus lineatifrons)

An uncommon clubtail of medium to large fast-flowing streams and rivers with good water quality. This is a large clubtail with a large club. Note (1) the pale top stripes on the thorax are Z-shaped (as opposed to sausage-shaped in Stylurus genus); (2) lack of yellow on the tops of segments 8 and 9; (3) yellow spot on side of segment 8 reaches the club rim and forward edge of the segment; (4) incomplete dark side stripe on thorax; and (5) green eyes. Compare with Skillet and Cobra Clubtails (which have a black rim surrounding yellow spot on segment 8) and Midland Clubtail (which has yellow top-spot on segment 8). I saw only a couple of individuals on one day in 2008.
