Left two photos are hatch-year male and right two photos are hatch-year female. The birds were captured in Idaho during fall migration (Aug/Sept). Note the extent of black on the crown, cheek, upper breast, back, and flanks. Also note the difference in the black shafts of the white-tipped median coverts.
