Lance-tipped Darner (Aeshna constricta)

A fairly common member of the "blue" or "mosaic" darner group. (1) Anterior thoracic stripe has only a slight dip or notch, (2) male has wedge-type claspers with spur, and (3) in females, abdominal segment 9 is longer than 8. Shadow Darner is our only other species with wedge-type claspers but they otherwise don't really look similar to Lance-tippeds. In females, the combination of (a) the shape of the front thoracic stripe and (b) abdominal segment 9 being longer than 8, is unique.
