Bisti Badlands is about 40 miles south of Farmington, New Mexico. As wilderness areas go, it's relatively easy to get to, and get into. The Egg Factory is one of the prominent features of Bisti Badlands. It's a little under 2 miles due East of the parking area, to the south of the long wash you follow when heading due East. Some of the nicest light would probably be in the evening in mid summer when the sun is as far north as it gets. I was there in early April, so it was a little early. In some shots, you can see that the sun rises behind dunes so the light is never quite as nice. These shots were all taken in the morning because as the days progressed, the weather went bad, with up to 70 mph winds, making 4x5 photograph impossible; and horizontal sleet on one day. A lot of dust too, which is another kind of nightmare for 4x5" film holders. Most of Bisti is white and doesn't photograph easily, and would require bracketing with TTL metering, letting more light in than the meter tells you to.
