Upper Yosemite Falls from the Upper trail.
(Operation Portside, Jan. 2004)
In another book we would be covering the details of the climbing route we chose to take this
image. This shot actually amounted to a documentary image as the sun was setting and the
shadows were moving in. We had taken the better part of the day decidedly considering
ourselves crazy to have climbed to this point, at one point having gotten off the trail
of snow and climbed up a ravine, tripod grasping and all. I finally scraped myself off
the mountain and found a spot where I encompassed both the fall, the ice pile at the
bottom and half dome all in one. Seth hit the same spot but decided he didn't like the
look and couldn't fit it into his liking as was.
"How do we further experience a moment of beauty?
Within an image does that persistence take place.
For the vision brings an inclination to remember
the moment we so treasured and in doing so doth
a smile receive the invitation to visit us
once again."
