Southern Black Racer (Colubra constrictor priapus)

Bulloch Co, Ga

Preferring flight to fight, these snakes
usually flee in the presence of a predator.
But if cornered they will bite repeatedly and
excrete an offensive musk. It is considered threatened
in the northern parts of its range in the eastern US.

Great photo. The colors are just right. I don't think we have racers up here in the Northeast. We have rat snakes that look like them.
