This grave is located in Bulloch County, Georgia. W. R. Whitaker's
dates of service were Sept. 10, 1862 to Apr. 9, 1865, when he surrendered
at Appomattox Courthouse. His date of birth indicates that he was
16 years old when he enlisted (Company F, Wilkinson Rifles) and had
just had his 19th birthday when he surrendered. The 3rd Georgia was
engaged at Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg,Chancellorsville, Gettysburg,
Wilderness Campaign, Cold Harbor, Appomattox and more after W. R. Whitaker
enlisted and before the unit stacked arms for the last time.
