Nestled among the pines is Salem Church. When
people gather, the frames in the foreground become
tables laden with food and dinner-on-the-grounds
is enjoyed. Dinner (the mid-day meal in the south)
on the grounds (of the church) is likely a tradition that developed
from the days when travelling preachers made circuits
and people made trips to church services that may
have taken a day or more by wagon or horses and mules.
Consequently the services lasted several days. Families
brought food and means of preparing food and meals were
shared.
