Garden Spider

In my search for monarch cocoons, I have come across more of these giant garden spiders.
Known as argiope, the females become huge in the fall, preparing to lay eggs. Even though their size lends a fierce appearance, the bright yellows and blacks are very beautiful and the spider itself is helpful in ridding gardens of little flying pests.
