Red Knot(Calidris canutus)

A common shorebird of sandy estuaries. For much of the year this bird has a drab grey plumage, however for about 6-8 weeks in the breeding season it undergoes a dramatic transformation as the ventral body feathering becomes a beautiful deep chestnut-red.
