Caroni Swamp view

Caroni Swamp, Trinidad

The Caroni swamp is a large brackish-water swamp on the west side of Trinidad facing the delta of the mighty Orinoco river in Venezuela. It is only about 12km from Venezuela & there is a lot of bird movement between here & the mainland.
The swamp holds large numbers of waders, Herons, Egrets & especially the eye-burning Scarlet Ibis.
The swamp has a number of other speciality birds including Common Potoo, Mangrove Cuckoo, Greater Ani, Green-throated Mango, Straight-billed Woodcreeper, Bicoloured Conebill & Red-capped Cardinal.
