Black-capped Bulbul (Pycnonotus melanicterus)

This is still treated as a race of the Black-crested Bulbul by many authorities although the Sri Lankan bird is different-looking and crestless. If this bird is split from Black-crested Bulbul then the Sri Lankan birds will retain the specific epithet "melanicterus".

Black-capped Bulbuls favour the damper forests of the south-west but can be found in woodland around Sigiriya.
