Rufous Hummingbird In Georgia

On Jan. 2, 2010, I had the pleasure of watching Bob & Martha Sargent capture, document, band, & release a Rufous hummingbird that has been visiting my parents house on Lookout Mountain in north Georgia. The process from beginning to end took less than 45 minutes. We discovered that the Rufous is a juvenile male who is in remarkingly good condition considering the brutal cold we are having here in north Georgia. He is expected to migrate between now and Jan. 15th, OR he may not migrate at all, and he will be fine if he doesn't, so say the experts, Bob & Martha.

Great pitchers of the hummer; I guess i never though of any one holding one before. I do watch the hummingbird's out my kitchen window every yr.It makes washing dishes a lot nicer.

Wonderful Pictures! I raised a hummer, Charlie whose mother had lost a wing and died. It was a great experience.

Great photos! I was honored to watch Bob & Martha several yrs ago at Land Between the Lakes. They caught & banded lots of hummers there. I got to hold & release one. What a thrill. Thanks for sharing your step by step experience.
