I thought this was the Wreck of the Cali, but I have found out that it is NOT but one close to the CaliAlso offshore in George Town harbour is the Wreck of the Cali |
an old sailing ship that was used as a freighter which now rests in about 20 feet of water. |
The story goes that the ship was carrying a load of dry grain and rice whenit began taking on water, causing the grains to swell and sink the vessel. |
It's now in pieces on the sea floor but many of the parts are still identifiable, such as the anchor winch and diesel engines. |
It sttracts a great variety of beautiful sponges along with an abundance of tropical fish. |
Lobster has also been spotted at the site. The Wreck of the Cali is about 50 yards out, and is accessible from both Rackam's or Hammerhead Pub on the waterfront. |
