Roadrunners

It's rather unusual to see roadrunners in Arizona, especially up close. She seemed like a velociraptor in our back yard and the other birds fled upon her arrival. I couldn't risk going outside and took these pictures through our windows.

After watching Road Runner Cartoons all my (adult!) life on Greek and American TV I would travel to Mojave just to see one up close! Thank you for the beautiful photos!

Great photos, some of the best I have seen of roadrunners. I do have to correct you however Roadrunners are not a rare sight in Arizona. I probably see as many roadrunners here in Mojave county as I do quail. In fact where I work at Laughlin Ranch we have a pair that eats scraps of meat from our hands.

Thank you for these beautiful pictures. I will share 4 of them with the children at my church tomorrow with this story. I had recently put in a 2 ft. high chicken wire fence around my garden to fence out the rabbits. One day we looked down to see a roadrunner going back and forth trying to find a way through the fence. We watched fascinated until we say another roadrunner not far away with a lizard in its beak. Then we knew we were watching a mother teach its young one. We got the lesson: "When we find ourselves doing the same thing over and over again without a good result its time to look up"

I've been looking for a model for a painting I want to do of a roadrunner. The one five rows down and the second one in is perfect. He's on the grass with a rock background. Hopefully I'll do him justice. Lucky you!

Thanks for your pictures! They helped confirm what my newest backyard addition is! I live in a densely populated hillside community in Corona CA...so I was extrememly surprised to see one here. Mine's visited about 3 times I've been witness to so far. We'll see how it fares with the hawks in spring. Probably shoulda' taken the left at Cucamonga with Buggs and headed east!
