The previous photo that I loaded was taken with the camera/lens shown in this shot. This better represents the actual 'eyeballing' of the situation....albeit well into the timeline of the fire.
The lens shown here is a Nikkor 300mm f4....mounted on a D50, which because of the small digital sensor, gives a 450mm film equivalent. A normal (7x35, 7x50) pair of binocs is about the same as a 400 mm 35mm film lens.
