A couple of nights ago there were thousands of downstrikes over Northern California.....over 400 in the Tahoe NF alone, according to www.YubaNet.com . Alas, my ass was stuck inside a cloud without access. What to do.
A couple hours ago a few rogue cells made their rare journey east to west, and I managed to get just one usable shot. Nice to not be shut out. First actual chance at night lightning this entire 2010 fire season.
'Bear Rock' at the lower left is actually the other half of Saddleback Mtn. (visitors might recognize the CalTrans cone on it's head). The right-most strike is somewhere south of High Commission.
Fir Cap is the flat top mountain on the right......the red light is likely brake lights near the top of Galloway road as it enters the Henness Pass road.
