This year we built a few extra days into our schedule to break up the drive back to Billings and allow for a little more sightseeing. After hiking out of the Wind River Range we had one night booked in the Tetons (Colter Bay tent cabins) and one night in Yellowstone (Old Faithful Inn) before returning to Billings. As it turned out, we ended up with an extra day after our backpacking trip in the Wind River Range and opted for a second night in the Tetons. We had hiked the Teton Crest Trail in 2004 and Steve did a climbing trip in 2006 (the Grand Teton, Mt. Moran, and others), so it had been awhile since we had spent any time in the park.

Although our time in the park was brief, we made the most of it. Steve did a 25 mile run through Cascade and Paintbrush Canyons, Norah and I did a ranger led hike to Inspiration Point, Norah completed her Junior Ranger badge, and we made sure to catch sunrise and sunset. We were pleasantly surprised by the food at the Pioneer Grill in Jackson Lodge and had another good meal at Dornan's Pasta Pizza Company. We were less than enthused about the Colter Bay tent cabins. With an eye on being frugal we stayed here two nights and said next time we would just pay for a normal cabin. Especially with the news of hantavirus in the Yosemite tent cabins, we were not thrilled to hear and see mice in our cabin. Eek! Mice or no, we still enjoyed our brief stay in the Tetons (and look forward to taking Norah on the Teton Crest Trail some day).
