On July 13, 2007 myself, Brad and Kathy hiked the 2nd Annual Presidential Range Traverse (First Annual) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Joing us this year were Peter, Christina, Bob and Rob. Kathy and I met Bob and Rob in October 2006 during a Three Bonds Traverse in the Pemigewasset Wilderness. Bob and Rob were kind enough to give us a ride back to our car off Zealand Road.
This years plan was for Kathy and Christina to join the five guys on the summit of Mount Washington via the cog (Kathy was 5 months pregnant and didn't want to hike the full 23 miles). Everything worked out as planned. This year we also decided to include Webster and Jackson so that we could say with certainty that we hiked a full Presidential Traverse. There is a lot of discussion regarding whether or not Jackson and Webster are technically part of the Presidential Range. Best to leave this to the geologists and just include the last two mountains.
In the end Brad's calculator said we hiked around 23 miles with somewhere around 9,000 feet of elevation gain, sounds about right to me. It was a great day in the mountains and everyone finished as planned. I hope to go back next summer for a third annual traverse with Norah.
