We had no plans for Labor Day, but on a whim checked flights about a week beforehand and found a great deal flying from Las Vegas to Portland. Granted, we would have to fly on Frontier, but we decided to roll the dice. We had never been to Portland before - or even Oregon - and were excited to visit someplace new. We didn’t have a lot of lead time for planning, so it was a mad dash to figure out an itinerary. We knew we wanted to visit the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon coast so allocated a day each for those day trips. On the third day Norah and I explored Portland while Steve ran the Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood. It was a short trip, but I felt we had a good sampling of what the Portland area has to offer and we definitely will be back to Oregon!
