Page Weekend April 2025: Cobra Arch, Edmaiers Secret, Kayaking the Colorado, and the Spencer Trail
In April Steve and I took the opportunity to go to Page for a long weekend when Norah was on her Diamond Down rafting trip with GCY. We took our truck camper and boondocked all four nights, which allowed closer access to the trailheads so we could get early starts in the mornings. Although that ended up not being such a concern as it was cooler than expected and the temperatures ended up being great. Our first two hikes were off trail routes; the first to Cobra Arch and the second to Edmaiers Secret. We had first visited Edmaiers Secret a few years back and were happy to return for a more extensive exploration - every place you look here you see some cool geological formation. This was definitely a highlight of the weekend for me.
On our third day we had booked a backhaul from Lees Ferry and kayaked the fifteen miles from Glen Canyon Dam back to Lees Ferry. Steve had previously done this on a pack raft on a windy day, so he appreciated our calm weather and it was smooth sailing. This was my first time on the river here and it was terrific. We did this on a Monday so there wasn’t a lot of traffic and it was a peaceful paddle through a beautiful canyon. At mile river four we stopped to make the short hike into Waterholes Canyon and were surprised by three chuckwallas - they are so big!
On our last day we returned to Lees Ferry, this time to hike the Spencer Trail before heading home. This trail is short, but steep, and every step of the way has gorgeous views. As a bonus we saw a small herd of bighorn sheep as we were ascending and again at the top. This was a great way to end our long weekend in Page - it was an awesome four days hiking and kayaking!
