On Day 6 it was time for the Grand Canyon. We left Page in the morning, got Navajo tacos in Cameron, and entered the park through the east entrance at Desert View. We stopped at Desert View for Daniela to get her first look at the canyon. The canyon is more open here and you can get a good look at a section of the Colorado River - it’s a nice contrast to the views we would see later in the village. It wasn’t busy and we didn’t have to wait at all to go up the tower. I always love the artwork in the tower and seeing the views from a little higher.

We stopped at a few more viewpoints on our drive to the village, hung out at home for a bit, then went back out to watch the sunset at Powell Point and Mohave Point on Hermit Road. We had a nice dinner at El Tovar before calling it a night. We were back on Hermit Road in the morning to enjoy the sunrise at Hopi Point. The early morning light is always beautiful. And this one was much easier than Canyon Overlook! We also returned to El Tovar for breakfast (probably my favorite meal there). We spent much of the day walking the Rim Trail - we looked for fossils just west of the village, saw the pictographs on the Bright Angel Trail, visited the various buildings in the village (Hopi House, Kolb Studio, the Fred Harvey Room at Bright Angel), learned about Navajo weaving, walked the Trail of Time to the Yavapai Geology Museum, and watched the film at the visitor center. To complete our afternoon, we drove out to Hermit’s Rest. It was fun showing Daniela around our “home” and the Grand Canyon was a perfect way to end our nature portion of the trip.
