Cape Cod

Our last visit to Cape Cod was in 2013, so we felt we were overdue for a visit when we returned to the East Coast in the summer of 2022. We revisited some favorite spots - we remembered how much we liked walking the tidal flats and made that a priority this trip - and also had some new experiences. One of these new experiences was a whale watching tour from Provincetown - it was amazing seeing the beautiful humpback whales and it was definitely a highlight of our trip.

With only a few days, we had to whittle down the huge list of places to go and things to do. We stayed at the Skaket Beach Motel, which was a convenient base for what we planned to do (also chosen for price - the Cape is definitely $$$$ in the summer!). Our favorite spot for dinner wasn’t far from there. The knack had delicious lobster rolls, chicken tenders and burgers with what I consider the quintessential Cape Cod ambiance: a casual eatery with counter service and outdoor seating. We finished off our evenings with treats from Hot Chocolate Sparrow (which we also remembered fondly from our previous trips - it was another definite on our list!).

What our days looked like:

Day 1: Arrived in Boston on a red-eye and drove directly to the Cape. We spent the late morning/early afternoon at Skaket Beach walking the tidal flats to Rock Harbor and back. We returned to Rock Harbor in the evening for sunset (and after a much needed nap at our motel!).

Day 2: An early morning whale watching tour from Provincetown followed by walking around P-Town and a visit to Race Point Beach (the visitor center, a reenactment of the Old Harbor Life Saving Drill, and a short walk on the beach). Sunset at Skaket Beach.

Day 3: The Salt Pond Paddle ranger program, walked around Chatham, and had a lovely evening walk on Coast Guard Beach with the seals and piping plovers. And one last lobstah roll.
