It was on our California spring break trip last year that Covid took over and the country shut down. Hard to believe it's been a year! I never would have imagined then that we would be taking spring break 2021 armed with masks and sanitizer and a new Covid vaccine (yay science!), but that's how we found ourselves in 2021. This time our road trip took us through Arizona and New Mexico, visiting parts of the states that were new to us. Many of the places we visited I had never heard of before this trip or else knew very little about them. Whether it was searching for petroglyphs at Three Rivers, rocking the rhyolite at Chiricahua, or riding a man cart into the Queen Mine, I was delighted to discover new places and learn about the geology, history, and nature of these spots. It was a great week! This was the breakdown of our trip:

Day 1: Grand Canyon to Springerville, AZ: Meteor Crater, Homolovi State Park, Little Painted Desert County Park, Holbrook
Day 2: Springerville, AZ to Alamogordo, NM: Pie Town, Valley of Fires, Three Rivers Petroglyph Site
Day 3: Alamogordo to Las Cruces, NM: Pistachioland, White Sands National Park
Day 4: Las Cruces, NM to Willcox, AZ: Dripping Springs (Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument), City of Rocks State Park
Day 5: Chiricahua National Monument, bonus Sandhill cranes
Day 6: Willcox, AZ to Bisbee, AZ: Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Tombstone, Bisbee
Day 7: Queen Mine Tour, Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum
Day 8: Bisbee to Tucson: Coronado National Memorial, thrift stores
Day 9: Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, 4th Avenue shopping, Fox in a Box Escape Room
Day 10: Tucson to the Grand Canyon
