Tail Slapper

Finally we found a tail slapper close to our boat. These guys leap up high before diving and slam their tails down in the water. Nobody is sure why they do it. It may be to signal other whales or to scare fish. Or maybe they are just playing. This one kept leaping and turning in the air with his tail slapping down into the water.

All the shots you've got up of these are so cool. Wish I was there. Did you get any of their bodies above water or is it always only the tail that's visible.

Neat. The spray of water makes this more than the classic tail shot.
