I was walking in a recently mowed field near some trees trying to find the songbirds I could hear in the branches when I came upon this mother mallard. She was settled in her nest on the ground. I don't know how the mowers missed her. I was able to get very close. (You can even see my sillhouette in her eye.) She kept a wary eye on me but did not move. It was very exciting to be that close. I tried not to disturb her as I took her picture.
