Thanks for the comments: one of the beauties of underwater photos is that the critters do most of the work to get beautiful images. A Christmas tree worm is a tube worm, so it is a creature. It has a body that it keeps in the tube, and extends its head and the two "trees" out. I believe that they are filter feeders, using the fine hairs to grab plankton, etc. When frightened, they vanish back into the tube, very quickly. The trees are typically about an inch or so high, and they come in all kinds of different colours.
